The Stone Museum is a renowned location of reference and a privileged location for learning, which promotes various activities for audiences of differentiated cultural origins. Open to the public since October 20, 2001 the Museum was in this same year awarded with the Honourable Mention of the Best Museum in Portugal of the Three-Year period 1999/2001 by the Portuguese Museum Association. Recently, it was awarded with the National Geoconservation Award 2006.
