Scientific dissemination associated to geology and mining, and the exploitation of the development potential, namely touristic, that constitute the territories associated to the extractive activities are the main objectives of the project that has been promoted since 2009 by Directorate-General for Energy and Geology DGEG, by EDM Mining Development Company SA and a wide range of Partners associated to this purpose.

The Guide of the Portuguese Geological and Mines Sites has the specific objective of giving visibility to a set of initiatives, with different institutional frameworks, dimensions and characteristics, related to geology and mines. The initiatives are of a recreational, cultural, pedagogical and scientific nature, developed in abandoned or in operation mines; museums; relevant natural landscapes, R&D centres, etc..

The creation of a web platform is a first step to give a public dimension to these initiatives.
