Site - Wolfram Museum of Cerva, Cerva

Over the centuries, mining has been an important activity within the territory that composes the actual municipality of Ribeira de Pena. Several tin mines reveal the extraction of this metal since the Antiquity. But it is the extraction of wolfram that, at the beginning of the 20th century, has been particularly increased with the settlement of the mining societies in Padroselos, in the parish of Santa Marinha, and especially in the Couto Mineiro de Adoria, in the parish of Cerva e Limões. With them came the transformation of landscape, of economy, of the consumption habits, which today find echo in the memories of the community and in the ruins of the mining structures.  The Wolfram Museum is housed in the old building of the Casa do Povo de Cerva and presents itself as a pole of interpretation of the history associated with the golden age of the wolfram, whose memory is deeply rooted in the local memory. It exhibit a collection of material and immaterial heritage that allows the visitor to explore the evolution of the Earth and the relationship between mankind and minerals, to know then the wolfram in particular, to understand the changes it has brought to society and to know the history and memories it has connected, establishing itself as a point of connection to Couto Mineiro de Adoria.
