Documentation and Interpretation Centre, Maceira-Liz

This infrastructure was created in 2006 with the objective of providing the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum with a space dedicated to research, to the study of the collections, and to the reception of visitors. It is installed in an office which for decades housed the E.C.L. Drawing Room. The building was refurbished for the installation of the visitor facilities - Reception, Shop, Cafeteria/Restaurant and Auditorium/Temporary Exhibition Area/ Multipurpose Rooms, and spaces dedicated for studying and handling of archive documentation and collections. Over the last few years various researchers have visited the location to conduct several studies. In the C.D.I the visitor has the possibility to see a movie made in the 1930´s, which constitutes an important document regarding the factory, showing all of the phases of the cement manufacturing process in Maceira-Liz.

Museum / Interpretation Center History:
Created in the beginning of the 1990´s, with four museum centres essentially of a historical and technological nature, the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum doubled is exposition and interpretation space over the last few years, thus broadening its scope into the areas of natural sciences.

Activity Program:
Among the regularly offered activities at the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum is the Educational Service, scheduled essentially for school-related audiences, which integrate the museum study areas with portions of the content of school subjects in accordance with the various grades of teaching. It provides visitors with the opportunity to take a guided tour conducted by retired workers and technicians

Study and Research Unit:
The facilities of the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum are focused on the subjects of social sciences and natural sciences with the objective to educate and increase awareness in regards to Heritage and the Environment. Its research is directed at the dominions of history, industrial archaeology, sociology and anthropology, production technology of cement, and the environment, as well as those aspects related to the interaction of the manufacturing facility with the scientific means and areas within t

In relation to the audio-visual and multimedia resources, the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum possesses: "O Fabrico de Barricas de Cimento" movie made in the middle of the 1930´s in the Fábrica de Barricas da E.C.L., as well as "Pedras de Portugal" movie made in the middle of the 1930´s in the E.C.L.
