Ecological Corridor, Valongo
The Ecological Corridor is essentially a pedestrian trail along the important fluvial systems within the landscape. A large portion of this trail "is built in land with lithology from the Precambrian and/or Cambrian and/or Ordovician periods. Near the Cuco Mills are siltstones that alternate with schist and quartzite (from the Ordovician period). Continuing in the direction of Couce, the siltstone embankments begin to disappear, and quartzite embankments become dominant. The definition of the stratification of these embankments is perfect, and there is stratum which is visibly folded in diverse directions. Additionally there are strata of conglomerate rock of variable granulometry which mark the base of the Ordovician period. After these embankments an area of Schist-Greywachian Complex (Precambrian and/or Cambrian) appears, in which the alternations of schist, greywaches and conglomerate rock are visible. Along this route it is possible to visit Aldeia de Couce. (Text extracted from the Valongo - Palaeozoic Parque folder - FCUP - Department of Geology).
