At 1420 meters above sea level, the moraine field of Lagoa Seca is an important evidence of the glacial dynamics of the Zêzere Valley, witnessing several phases of its total filling with over 250 m of ice thickness. In this geosite there are four moraine ridges formed by large granite boulders: three internal ridges, dating about 30 thousand years (last maximum of glaciation of Estrela); and an external ridge, showing more weathered forms, located in the upper valley of the Beijames, dating to an earlier phase or even to the penultimate glaciation. This set of moraines, deposited in a flat and protected col, constitutes a valuable element of the geological heritage providing important data for the reconstruction of the ancient environments of Western Iberia.
