Limestone Quarry Observatory, Maceira-Liz

The Limestone Quarry Observatory comprises a privileged location for the observation of the entire limestone outcropping which dates back to the Jurassic period. The visitor will get to know the geological and paleontological framework of the location through an interpretative display panel and observe the extraction activity in the quarry. This is the first stage of the cement manufacturing. This is an ideal place for observation of various types of birds, especially raptors and marine birds. The visitor has access to an informative display board where some of the bird species which seek out the quarry as a source for food, refuge, or nesting are identified.
