The Nucleo Central of the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum was inaugurated on April 22, 1991 and was restructured between 2003 and 2011. It brings together a retrospective of the history of the Empreza de Cimentos de Leiria, through which the visitor is provided with a chronological display, from the time it was founded in the beginning of the 20th century until today. The exhibition provides information regarding the founders and technological innovations, as well as an exhibition of the social works conducted in Maceira-Liz. There are two areas in which the technological aspects of the cement production and the geology and palaeontology of the Quarries are focused. This trip through history, technological and social evolution of the manufacturing facility is conducted through countless original photographs, documents and various objects which belong to the museum collection, as well as interactive elements, as the case of an important film document from the middle of the 1930´s regarding the manufacturing process and the old packaging and shipping processes. The exhibition also has a centre dedicated to the expansion of the E.C.L to Africa (1944-1963), specifically to Mozambique and Angola, where three factories were built. Finally, there is an area dedicated to the most recent technological innovations.
