S. SALVADOR ChURCH - MAIN CHURCH OF ALJUSTREL

The date of construction of the Main Church of Aljustrel (Igreja Matriz) is not knon, but it already existed in 1478, the year in hich it is mentioned in a document. Built by D. Fernão de Mascarenhas, Prior of the Military Order of Santiago da Espada, that's hy a sord, symbol of the Military Order, can be seen on the front of the door. It has a single nave supported by three brick arches. The nave's vault is considered the largest in the Alentejo, supported by thick stone alls.
