In the granite weathering landscape of this area one can identify several landforms such as tors, nubbins, boulders and other peculiar shapes. These have their origin in the deep chemical weathering of the granite under warm and wet climate conditions, before the mountain’s main uplift. With the increase in relief and degradation of the vegetation cover, the weathering mantle was slowly eroded, exposing the outcrops of fresher and harder core stones. The fractures are the main zones for water infiltration in the granite bedrock, controlling the deep weathering and the present day landforms.
