In the Portas de Ródão Natural Monument the largest river on the Iberian Peninsula, the Tejo, runs entrenched and submissive between the giant quartzite formations. The river erosion advanced at a speed of only 10 cm every 1000 years over the last 2.6 million years. Such geological beauty has been taken advantage of as a habitat by unique vegetation and animal species and by Humans for more than 150,000 years. This is one of the ex-libris of the Naturtejo Geopark, which can be observed from the Rodao Bridge, from the snack park of Foz do Enxarrique, the Lookout from the Castelo do Rei Wamba and the Lookout from the Senhora da Achada.
