Turbo-Generator Power Station, Maceira-Liz

The electrical power for the start-up of the construction of the E.C.L was provided by a group of three generators powered by diesel engines, the Diesel Power-Station. After the start-up of furnaces one and two, a Turbo-Generator Plant fed by hot gases from the ovens was installed, thus promoting the cogeneration of electric energy. In 1928 the Turbo-Generator Plant received a turbo-alternator group AEG of 1550 KW of power to which a second turbo-alternator group of BBC of 1250KW of power was later added, and three caldrons of steam power. The Turbo-Generator Plant ceased operations on November 1, 1972. The building and equipment are currently conserved and on display. The building displays the industrial architectural characteristics of the time period as well as the original equipment.

Museum / Interpretation Center History:
Created in the beginning of the 1990´s, with four museum centres essentially of a historical and technological nature, the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum doubled is exposition and interpretation space over the last few years, thus broadening its scope into the areas of natural sciences

Activity Program:
Among the regularly offered activities at the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum is the Educational Service, scheduled essentially for school-related audiences, which integrate the museum study areas with portions of the content of school subjects in accordance with the various grades of teaching. It provides visitors with the opportunity to take a guided tour conducted by retired workers and technicians

Study and Research Unit:
The facilities of the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum are focused on the subjects of social sciences and natural sciences with the objective to educate and increase awareness in regards to Heritage and the Environment. Its research is directed at the dominions of history, industrial archaeology, sociology and anthropology, production technology of cement, and the environment, as well as those aspects related to the interaction of the manufacturing facility with the scientific means and areas within t

In relation to the audio-visual and multimedia resources, the Maceira-Liz Factory Museum possesses: "O Fabrico de Barricas de Cimento" movie made in the middle of the 1930´s in the Fábrica de Barricas da E.C.L., as well as "Pedras de Portugal" movie made in the middle of the 1930´s in the E.C.L.
